The Brick Show

Our first GertLUG show this year was organised by member Luke Herridge for his local infant school in Downend. The aim was to raise money for the school, to go towards a new playground, and to raise smiles on the faces of as many people who came along to see the show as possible! Luke succeeded on both fronts and here's a quick write-up of the show, in his own words:
What a fantastic Brick Show at Christ Church Infants School, Downend, Bristol this weekend (Saturday 5th February) Thank you to the 18 LEGO displayers, including two trading stalls, who gave up their time to support this fundraising event. LEGO displays were varied and vast from The Lake, Minecraft Death Star, Train layout, Haunted House on a Hill and even The Queen Vic.
The families and local community enjoyed their visits across the day, in what was a happy and bustling event. The Gertluggers welcomed over 600 visitors throughout the day, a brilliant number for a small local show. Families enjoyed the contrast of the excitement in the main hall through to the calm of the playroom, where you could hear the clicking of bricks as the children got creative with the play bricks provided by GertLUG.
Generous raffle prizes were given from stalls and individuals, with many going home happy with their LEGO prizes. Guess how many bricks, LEGO badge builds, raffle and a tuck shop added further funds to the cause. We are so proud to have raised £1650; which will be donated to the school to go towards the cost of a new playground.
Headteacher Mrs Martin was in awe of the displays and the passion from the Gertluggers and was incredibly grateful to myself and the group for bringing the event to the school, although it was our pleasure!
The event was full of smiling faces from displayers to visitors, young and old. Apologies to the parents who literally had to drag their children out of the event as those children did not want to leave due to enjoying themselves so much! Many young minds have definitely been inspired from visiting the show on the weekend.
Thanks to Emily for the pictures and to everyone else involved in starting off our GertLUG event calendar so brilliantly.
