With the continued lockdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the GertLUG monthly meet ups are still being held online using Zoom. While it isn't quite the same as meeting in person, there has been the added benefit of seeing some of our members who live further afield and don't usually make it to the Bristol based meet ups.
For the May meet up, there was an emphasis on SigFigs, the monthly build challenge and the usual discussions on the latest LEGO related news and chat. We also had a number of quick challenges based around standard 2 x 4 bricks, which included a stacking challenge to see how many 2 x 4 bricks we could place on top of each other end on and a sphere building challenge.
The subject for the monthly build challenge was 'not all heroes wear capes' with entries ranging from medical professionals to postal workers.
A screenshot from this meet up featuring a number of SigFigs is shown below.
The June meet up included a treasure hunt where Kerry would show a number of LEGO parts from her collection and everyone else would have to find the matching elements out of their own collections and hold it up to their camera to prove they had found them.
There was also a build in the bag challenge from Sarah to see who could build two interlinked squares from thirty two 1 x 1 bricks and eight 1 x 1 headlight bricks within a sealed bag approximately 6 x 6 inches in size.
June's monthly build challenge was 'rooftops' and featured a range of sizes and styles of entry, each one showing off interesting methods of connecting LEGO bricks for differing styles of construction. A number of the entries are shown below.
