Dear GertLUG members
As we have had many new members since our last major meet up at Christmas, I thought I would take the time to introduce myself.
I am Paul the Chairperson; most people call me PK though. I have been in post for over a year now and have really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know so many friendly and lovely likeminded AFOL*. I have learnt so much from so many interesting conversations with you.
It has also been awesome to work with the rest of the committee as there is a lot going on in the background and we have a very busy team working away. Just to mention some of the work that people do to keep the LUG going; Nick as Ambassador keeps us informed with what is happening with LEGO® officially and is constantly promoting us around the world. Our creative Social Secretaries Hannah & Emily have us constantly entertained and engaged in challenges. They are also key to our social media activity as they know so much about what is going on. Ben is our diligent Treasurer who has manged to get everything set up for us in a very efficient and official fiscal manner. Adrian and Jamie have built our website and are constantly updating it. If you haven’t had a look at it then take a peek**. Then there is Joe who as our Vice Chairperson is a great support to the team in many different ways, including proofreading all the documents I send his way.
Paul was our Secretary for the past year and did a huge amount of work at meetings, events and managing stock, as well as correspondence with new members. He was always willing to help out where needed. He has stepped down from his role and we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank him for all that he has done for the LUG in his role and we are delighted that you will still be an active member. Thank you Paul.
So, as you can see, we have a good team supporting the structure of the LUG, but there would be no LUG if there were no members. We do this for our love of the brick but also for you the members. We want our LUG to be more than just a website and a bit of chat on social media; we want it to be a community where people feel valued and happy to engage as much as they want to.
So there are just a couple of things I would like to mention at this point and I will try and keep them to bullet points:-
• Our AGM is coming up soon on the 8th May 2020 at 8pm. We will be hosting this on Zoom and all the details will be on our members Facebook page. We would love to have as many of you there as possible. For those of you who have not used Zoom before, we will be running some “Practice/Support” sessions beforehand.
• We would love to hear your ideas for what you would like from our LUG. I use the word ‘our’ because we are all part of it. Also, if you have any feedback or question please feel free to get in contact with me . If you prefer a chat over the phone, then just email me and we can arrange that.
• Membership renewals are coming to a close now, although we have extended it to the 7th May. After that point it will only be current members in the Facebook page.
As a group we have grown rapidly in the past year, overcome many obstacles, achieved many great things and seen some awesome creativity and talent. At this point all I can say is that I am so excited to see what the next 12 months brings. New friends, more builds and the sharing of knowledge as our community expands.
Wishing you all lots of good health, happiness & bricktastic fun.
PK
*I am going with the fact that I believe AFOL can be singular & plural (Adult Fan/Fans of LEGO®)
