Supersonic Brick Show 2025

For the third year running, GertLUG was invited by Aerospace Bristol to host a brick show at their amazing museum. The Supersonic Brick Show has quickly become GertLUG's second biggest brick show of the year behind the Bristol Brick Show and is loved by both our members due to being under the last Concorde aircraft to ever fly and by visitors for its focus in interactive displays.

A message from the event organiser, Rob Youdale

Friday 11th July was set up day for this years Supersonic Brick Day at Aerospace Bristol. Plenty of volunteers arrived to assist putting 172 tables in place. Would they fit as this far exceeded previous shows but after some frantic replanning the week before (when we were advised power was in a different place to the original plans) and some patience the tables were in. Phew. Then it was left for the displayers and sellers to set up for the following day.

An early start on Saturday 12th July 2025 to ensure everything was set up and ready to go by 08:30 to enable the obligatory briefing and photo to take place. This was followed by a briefing for the wonderful volunteers who make this type of show happen as unlike other shows it’s very interactive. Being such a hot weekend there was concern about how it would feel for everyone but measures were put in place to try and find some breeze and make the temperature bearable. On top of this there were plenty of drinks provided to help everyone hydrate. And cake…….

By 09:00 the first visitors were arriving and a steady stream continued throughout the day. Being such a vast space its an ideal venue for large numbers with over 1300 visitors coming through the doors. Visitors were entertained by a great mix of displays and as always the GBC was well received. On top of this we had a good selection of Concordes in various liveries and then some of the alternative builds. The activities went down well again with everything from RC cars and car ramps to flower and mosaic making and much more. And lots of the displayers also had interactive elements on their displays which is always nice. The raffle, tombola and Lucky Lollies all did well with important funds being raised for the LUG. This year we put in place a 70” screen near the entrance to the Concorde Hangar promoting the Robot Battles upstairs. It took place in a separate room with tiered seating, video screens and audio so audiences were all very engaged. We had 15 robot builders who brought 90 robots. We did 3 normal fight sessions each with around 14-16 fights per session along with a main tournament with around 14 fights. Each session lasted between 60 and 75 minutes.

Finally a big thank you to the volunteers, displayers and sellers who helped us organise the show, would Team Youdale do it again, watch this space………..

GertLUG will return to the Supersonic Brick Show in 2026. Keep an eye on our website for details for next year's show.
